Recently, the latest Fortune 500 list was released.
The combined revenue of the Fortune 500 companies this year is approximately $37.8 trillion, up a whopping 19.2% from the previous year (the largest increase in the list’s history) and equal to two-fifths of the world’s GDP that year, close to the combined GDP of China and the United States. The threshold (minimum sales revenue) to enter the ranking also jumped from $24 billion to $28.6 billion.
In this year’s list, the number of companies in the food and beverage industry on the list is 10, which are the leading companies in each segment.

Among them, COFCO, which will have revenues of US$103.09 billion in 2021, has been listed in the Fortune 500 for 28 consecutive years and is ranked 91st in the Fortune 500 this year, up 21 places from last year. COFCO’s portfolio includes a number of listed companies such as China Foods, Mengniu Dairy, Ashley International and Modern Herding.
Nestle, a Swiss food company, ranked 103rd this year, down 24 places from the previous year. For the whole year last year, the company’s revenue was US$95.29 billion, up 6.1 year-on-year; net profit was US$18.50 billion, up 42% year-on-year.
New Hope Holdings Group Ltd. ranked 356th on the Fortune 500, up 34 spots from 390 in the previous year. The company’s revenue for the year was $39.17 billion and profit was $330 million.
PepsiCo, one of the beverage giants, was ranked 143rd in the Fortune 500 this year, down 12 spots from last year. It is worth mentioning that PepsiCo has made the Fortune 500 list every year from 1955 to the present. PepsiCo’s earnings report showed that net income for 2021 was $79.4 billion, up 12.9% year-on-year, and net income attributable to common shareholders was $7.618 billion, up 6.99% year-on-year.
Another beverage giant company, Coca-Cola Group, also has not fallen from the list from 1955 to now. Coca-Cola ranked 359th this year, up 11 places from last year. Coca-Cola’s earnings report showed that the company’s full-year net profit attributable to common shareholders for fiscal year 2021 was $9.771 billion, up 26.13% year-on-year, and operating income was $38.655 billion, up 17.09% year-on-year.
In addition, Yizi International, known for its Oreos, fell 35 spots to No. 498 this year. The company’s 2021 net profit of $4.3 billion, up 21% year-on-year, and revenue of $28.72 billion, up 8% year-on-year.
In addition, Budweiser, Danone and other industry giants have made the list.
Public information shows that the history of the Fortune 500 list began in 1955. In that year, Fortune magazine ranked the 500 largest industrial companies in the U.S. based on the total revenue of each company in 1954, and on August 7, 1995, Fortune magazine released the Fortune 500 list for the first time, covering both industrial and service companies. This is the 28th consecutive year that Fortune has published this list of the world’s largest companies.
